This stunning museum is a tribute to Latin American artist. It opened in 2001 and the modern spacious feel was designed by three Argentinean architects Gastón Atelman, Martín Fourcade and Alfredo Tapia. The museum has humble beginnings, it was a private collection of renouned artist, Eduardo Constantini. It now has permanent and temporary exhibits, including art from Antonio Berni, Pedro Figari, , Cândido Portinari, and Antonio Siguí. There are splendid paintings by Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Joaquin Torres-Garcia, Jose Cuneo, Tarsila Do Amaral, and Emilio Di Cavalcanti. Including a magnificent painting by Berni, "Chelsea Hotel" Argentinean artist included Antonio Berni, Xul Solar (who has his own museum in Buenos Aires),and Alfredo Guttero. When I visited in 2007 there was an exhibit featuring fashion, which included some dresses of Eva Peron.
The mission of the MALBA museum is to stimulate interest in and educated the public of Latin American art. To achieve this goal the museum has established a growing film library and shows films at various times. The museum also host meetings, classes, literary lectures and writers meetings to stimulate the art community.
